Postby TequilaMockingbird » Sat Sep 17, 2016 8:01 am

Ok not officially yet, but I'm so excited for the fall season! I love summer but this time of year makes me so excited. Pumpkin spice everything! This is one of my favorite things about New York. You really get to experience all of the changing seasons. :D

I like the fall but here we usually skip fall, right now it's still 100°. It doesn't usually cool off till Nov. But really we will be like 80/90° one day and wake up to 50° the next.

Moonlightkitty... I'm still in the process of working on a different kind of custom. We'll see how it turns out. Anyone have any ideas? I love working on customs but am struggling a bit with ideas. :(

Oh my gosh, that is SO AMAZING. I am literally sitting here with my jaw open. Not only is it a great idea, but I loved how they all turned out. Especially using the hamsters for Nerds! I don't recognise all the candy because I'm Australian but the end result is just so incredible! You should be terrifically proud of yourself.

We have something in Australia called chocolate frogs, but apart from painting the frogs brown I don't see how that could be improved, not sure how they'd look brown anyway...

I know I said this already on your Instagram account, but, I LOVE THESE!!! :D

You should do LPS cereal box mascots :) Golden Crisp Bear, Trix Rabbit, Tony the Tiger...

Oh, and helpful hint on Fruit Stripe Gum, the Ricky's on 3rd Ave near Union Square used to have an old fashioned candy section near the front of the store, and they had BOTH varieties of Fruit Stripe Gum...meaning, the highly coveted pink and purple pack!

What's the trick to getting the paint to stick and cover the plastic? Whenever I do a custom its seems like I'm fighting the paint the whole time. :?

For these I did a light coat of white spray paint. You have to do a light spray so it doesn't accumulate on the figures. You can add a few layers if needed. And the white base helps when painting too. I use one that's low odor so I can use indoors. It requires less coats after to try to cover the underlying original color as well. Then I coat with modge podge at the end to prevent the paint from rubbing off. Before I spray painted in the past it took forever and many layers to get the paint to stick and cover.

LOVE the customs, cute idea!

@twincheckers: what kind of paint have you been using? I've used regular acrylics when I've done customs and I've never had a problem with it sticking. Maybe make sure it's good and clean, and you can also go over it with a buffer (like for doing your nails) to rough up the surface just a smidge and make the paint stick a little better.

Gloss acrylic paint.... never thought of a roughing up the surface OR a base coat though. I will have to try out these new tricks...

oh yes the base coat makes it much easier. especially if the color underneath is much darker. Id love to see what you're working on. Happy to help if I can! I love customs :D
