Health scare

Postby jeapos88 » Sun Mar 06, 2016 5:10 pm

So I got my wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday, Friday afternoon I'm sitting at my mom's house when I start having this horrible stabbing pain in my chest. It went all the way through to my back, I had trouble catching my breath, then I broke out in a cold sweat. That's when my mom rushed me to the ER, I had all the symptoms of a heart attack, but the tests all came back normal, though they did give me a large dose of aspirin, and said most likely it was my gallbladder and to follow up with my regular Dr. though most everything I've read about gallbladder attacks don't fit my symptoms at all. :?

:( That's awful!!! I hope everything is okay. Definitely get a second opinion. I know that panic attacks feel like heart attacks, but am not sure if your symptoms match. :?

I don't think it was a panic attack, I was just laying around at my mom's house when it happened. I've never experienced anything like that before.

Oh dear how scary. That's no fun at all. My mum had to have her gallbladder out and I think she described the pain as the worst ever. So if it was anything like that, then you poor thing! *hugs*
Surprisingly, stabbing chest pain is rarely anything to do with your heart.
Can I ask, did you have codeine for the tooth pain? Because it could be a side effect of that.

The only thing I had taken for my tooth pain was ibuprofen, i do hope it's not anything serious. I've never has any problems with my gallbladder before, so it was a surprise when they suggested that.

Sorry to hear this happened to you! Hope you figure out what the problem is soon. I have some health issues that I still haven't figured out what's causing them. It's the most frustrating thing ever!

The dr chalked it up to an esophagal spasm from the ibuprofen I took for my teeth. My liver enzymes have been high for nearly 6 months, and my dr is finally doing an ultrasound to see if there's an issue with that or my gallbladder. She just keeps saying it's a fatty liver due to my gaining 6 pounds

Just to update. Last I posted I was having an ultrasound to check my liver/gallbladder, all that was normal, yet still having chest pain, nowhere as bad as that first episode, but still. It feels like a constant squeezing in the left side of my chest. Mentioned this to my dr, and she blew me off saying it was probably just a pulled muscle.

Well here it is 3 months later, STILL having pain, got a new dr who doesn't seem to think it's anything serious, but is sending me for a cardiac stress test just to be sure.

I'm so sorry your going through all this. Sounds very scary. I honestly will tell you seek a second opinion. When I was a kid I suffer from things I didn't understand. Doctors couldn't figure it out so they told my parents since I loved attention I was seeking attention. So my parents ignored me. I found in my teens I had had a rare tumor all that time. Doctors can be wrong.

Then years later after I had my kids I started noticing I had chest pain randomly. Started feeling like I would pass out, or feel weak. I would have what I thought was panic attacks. Saw a cardiac specialist, got a stress test and ultrasound of the heart. All normal. But my symptoms continued. I finally went into my doctors office and said I'm afraid do something. They sent me to a electrophysiologist(heart rhythm doctor) and they put a heart loop recorder inside me(more accurate then a stress test and halter monitor) and they discovered I had tachycardia. Every time I thought I had anxiety I was actually was having heart problems. They are looking into a pacemaker possibly as I suffer from low blood pressure too.

Sorry to share but the point is if your having symptoms your body is telling you something. Please listen, and if your doctors not getting to the bottom of it. Get another doctor.

I wish you well and hope you can get your answers. Oddly enough I was told it was stomach and gallbladder several times too. Not knowing what is wrong in my opinion is much worse then knowing. I feel for you, as I've been there.

I would also suggest maybe seeing a endocrinologist. Sometimes thyroid problems can cause similar symptoms or serious acid reflux can cause major chest pain, even shortness of breath. Please keep us updated on your progress. Sonetimes I wish I could open a business just as a patient advocate to help patients care be managed properly and help patients be heard and have all the doctors on the same page.

Thank you for the advice. I went through all the tests and yet they found nothing wrong. One morning I woke up and all my symptoms had gone away, and so far haven't returned. It's been nearly 4 months now. The only thing that changed was that i started getting a regular day off. Before the company I was working for had me working 6 days a week, when we got bought out by the new company they started letting me have a day off every week, my pain went away, so unless it comes back I guess I'll chalk it up to stress
