Does anyone remember these weird dolls?

Postby Waylah » Thu Oct 02, 2014 4:47 am

For a brief period of time in the 90's, maybe about 1998, there were in shops here in Australia dolls with clip-on clothes. They were like 3D paper dolls in that the clothes to clip on the front only made sense if you looked directly at the front. They didn't wrap around. Sometimes it would be not just clothes, but a motorbike or something like that.

Anyways, I never owned one, but I saw them in shops, and they CAME WITH LPS BABY ANIMALS. I was so tempted to buy a whole set of this ridiculous doll just for the single LPS puppy or bunny (or kitten? I remember at least a puppy and a bunny, LPS molds). I so wish I had.

I really really want to know what these were.

It also might explain some of the unknown fakie babies floating around out there!

Or little snaps. I can't find any that have a littlest pet shop pet though. Do you remember what sets had the pets?

As a fellow Aussie these don't sound familiar at all. But I'd love to find out what they are.

Same idea as those dolly pops, but they were larger, taller and thinner limbed. Maybe about the size of a mini lalaloopsy. Every one came with a LPS baby animal.

The only ones that I have found are Snap 'n Play, Snap Happy's, and Flip 'n Fancy, but I don't see any LPS pets with them :(

None of those ... Hmm ... think a little bit bigger. Proportions closer to that second last one rather than the last one. I am dying to know. Maybe they were no name brand?? But they were in supermarkets... A friends little sister got some from an op shop (charity store) a few years after I saw them in shops. I definitely didn't dream them!

Do you remember the supermarkets they sold them? Maybe we could find employers who can remember...

Perhaps it's the same doll I had... In my case I had got the doll and the bunny or the puppy in an easter kinder egg... Read my description in my post. I didn't keep the doll but I still have the babies LPS (it's for them that I bought the kinder eggs !!!)

I'm pretty sure the dolls you're referring to are these:

The majority of them were manufactured by Chap Mei, and a few of them are knock-offs of them.

I believe these are the Baby Buddies fakie pets that were sold with them:

Hope that helps.

Wow that's amazing Leah, I think that must have been them. Each one had one pet with it, and I know one of the pets was that puppy. That is a very impressive collection of fakie babies. Are they yours?

I looked up Chap Mei on Ebay, but there was only one dolly like these.

Was there an actual name to this particular Chap Mei product line? Looks like Chap Mei also made the elusive Cutie Princess Pets sets with translucent babies!

Bonbon, aren't those dolls way too big for this small yellow plastic bowl in the Kinder Eggs?
I remember you told that the chocolate eggs you got as a child (with those animals in them) came from africa?

It was very big easter eggs with purple metalic paper around. I found them in a french supermarket in Cameroun. I don't remember how it was inside the big chocolat egg...

I posted on tumblr about Cutie Princess a while back. I'm surprised Chap Mei also did a more "realistic" version with brushable hair and normal looking baby pets. I'm curious what this other line is called as well.
